When to Perform Vastu Poojan of the 45 Devtas
Vastu poojan is done not only at the start of construction but at several stages and family events; at griha arambh and griha pravesh it is essential.

Open Courtyard or Double Height at the Brahmasthan
Palaces and old houses had an open-to-sky courtyard at the centre, which kept the mind clear; when the courtyard disappeared, that clarity went too. If the centre cannot be open to the sky on every floor, a double height at the Brahmasthan still balances the space element.

How to do it
- 1Keep the Brahmasthan open to the sky through all floors, which is best.
- 2If that is not possible, keep at least a double height (for example about 20 ft) open at the Brahmasthan, even if it is closed above.
Explanation and notes
A survey found that houses with a double height at the Brahmasthan had more happiness and peace. Houses built 65 to 70 years ago often had such open centres because the shilpi (builder) was himself the vastu expert. Earlier people took clear-cut decisions; now they keep thinking for days, months and years.
